Colleen Davies
Colleen Davies is a graduate of the Dalhousie University School of Physiotherapy class of 1994. Colleen completed her Diploma in Advanced Manual and Manipulative Therapy in 2004 and became a Fellow of The Canadian Academy of Manual Therapists. In 2009, she became Certified in Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (CGIMS). She joined The Broadmead Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Team in 2003. She embraces the clinic’s philosophy of providing quality hands on care to her clients. She enjoys treating people of all ages and a full range of musculoskeletal conditions. She has a special interest in TMJ dysfunction, women’s health and sports injuries. She draws from her training and experience in joint mobilization, manipulation, IMS, soft tissue release and exercise prescription to provide comprehensive treatment for her clients. Colleen has taken many post graduate courses and has been involved with teaching the fourth year medical students at the University of Victoria. She loves maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle and being involved in her kids’ sports.
Nicholas Friesen
Nick graduated from McMaster University where he received his Masters of Physiotherapy in 2014. He previously completed his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Pharmacology at the University of Alberta. In between his studies in Physiotherapy and Pharmacology, Nick spent several years competing at the semi-professional level in road cycling. During that time, he raced for teams in Canada, the United States, Belgium and France. As a physiotherapist, Nick has experience working with a diversity of clients ranging from geriatric patients to high performance athletes. Nick has a passion for physiotherapy and its ability to empower clients and enhance their quality of life. Since graduation, Nick has taken advanced training in acupuncture and dry needling, soft tissue release and taping techniques. In addition, Nick has worked with the McMaster Marauders varsity swim team, and athletes from the Ontario Cycling Association.
Lauren Macauley
Lauren Macauley graduated from Dalhousie University with a Masters of Physiotherapy in 2010. She is a certified Gunn intramuscular stimulation (IMS) therapist, is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapists (FCAMPT) and has received her Certificate of the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (CAFCI). Lauren aspires to educate every patient about their injury and then use a hands-on manual therapy approach to their treatment. She uses IMS and acupuncture to compliment her manual therapy, as it is a powerful way to treat the surrounding soft tissue. For Lauren, the most rewarding part of her job is empowering her patients about their injury and seeing the positive results with physiotherapy. Her special interests are in gait analysis for runners, plantar fascia and metatarsal pain, cervicogenic headaches, TMJ dysfunction, and treating all forms of sprains/strains of the body. She has worked with a variety of international class sports teams including hurling and rugby in Ireland, Canada Games soccer teams, national rowers, motocross and mixed martial arts athletes. Lauren has also taken a special interest in concussion management, post-concussion syndrome, and vestibular rehabilitation. She has taken many courses and is up to date with the latest research and treatment techniques available with this growing field of rehabilitation. Outside of work, Lauren is a dedicated competitor in equestrian dressage and in dog agility with her sheltie dogs. Overall, this experience has provided her with a well-rounded approach to physiotherapy and a belief in the value of movement.
Paul McIntyre
Please call the clinic directly at (250) 881-1199 to book with this therapist. Paul graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1998. He has gone on to specialize in orthopaedics completing a Certificate of Intermediate Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy in 2000, a Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy in 2001 and a Certificate of Gunn IMS, Intramuscular Stimulation (CGIMS) in 2008. Paul McIntyre opened Broadmead Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Clinic in 2002. Their philosophy is “A Body in Motion Stays in Motion”. To keep your body in motion he focuses on quality patient care with an emphasis on manual and manipulative therapy, Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) in conjunction with exercise and education. Paul has special interests in spinal and shoulder dysfunction as well as sports injuries. Paul has worked with a variety of athletes ranging from those dreaming of one day being an Olympian to Olympians. Paul has taught the fourth year medical students at University of Victoria as well as physiotherapists pursuing their specialization in manual therapy.
Matt Rose
Matt Rose is a graduate of Texas A&M, with an undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology and his Masters in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta. He is also certified by the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and in Functional Dry Needling / IMS. Matt has a strong background in sports therapy with key interests in swimming and running injuries. In his athletic career, he was a 2004 Olympian in swimming, 11 time National Champion, former national record holder and represented Canada for 10 years at international swim meets. Blending his knowledge of sport and physio, Matt is now the traveling physio with the National Swim Team (most recently at the 2015 Pan Am Games and 2016 Rio Olympics) and works locally with the High Performance Swimming Center and various swim clubs in Victoria where he supports youth, amateur and Olympic athletes achieve their goals. Despite this niche he enjoys treating athletes of all types from old-timer hockey players to high school baseball players. He takes a dynamic approach to rehabilitation encompassing manual techniques, soft tissue release, Functional Dryneedling / IMS and exercise prescription. He believes that helping the client to understand their specific condition is a key component of rehabilitation which empowers the client for optimal return to function.
